A one day certified training session in First Aid will be given prior to beginning this course.
Course Structure
This full-time FETAC Level 5 Nursing Studies Course is designed to prepare students for academic programmes in the nursing sector and/or employment in the health sector as a care assistant. The FETAC Level 5 Nursing Studies course is structured to provide a foundation in the theory and practice of Health Science for graduates who intend to enter the nursing, paramedical or community care service.
Work experience is a mandatory module. Students will be required to carry out 100 hours outside of scheduled class time in order to satisfy the requirements of the FETAC work experience module. This will provide an opportunity to merge classroom learning with practical experience under the tutelage of experienced and qualified professionals.
We offer the opportunity to go abroad for work experience and gain fluency in another European language.
Evaluation
A combination of final written examinations and continuous assessment processes such as assignments, learner records, projects and skills demonstrations.
Progression Route
Graduates who have the required number of module distinctions are eligible for consideration for academic progression routes in Nursing and related Health Studies degrees in Universities and Institutes of Technology in Ireland and various colleges in Britain.
Entry Requirements
- The course is open to Irish and International students.
- Leaving Cert standard
- You must be aged at least 17 on 31st December of the year in which you start the course.
- Non-Irish applicants must have fluent English or IETS or Cambridge exam.
- Successful Interview.
- Provide two References.
Duration
Full-time, one academic year course: mid Sept-end May
Classes: Monday-Thursday weekly, 10.00am-5.00pm. daily.
Fees
Once enrolment is confirmed in writing, and secured, students are required to make a first instalment of €500 on or before 1st September. The balance of fees €2,000 will be due on commencement of the course.
€2,500 payment covers 1 course OR €3,000 for 2 courses studied simultaneously.
